Youth in Thika seeking to invest in business have been urged to consider event management as a viable business idea.
Carol Munene, the CEO of Thika based Lil Magic Events, said that there exists several opportunities in event planning, but many people have not yet considered it as a viable business opportunity.
Speaking in her office near the Thika High School on Thursday, Munene who promotes and sponsors various youth-related activities, urged Thika youth to take advantage of the funds introduced by the State and the county governments to venture into the field.
"Events organising is an emerging business opportunity that many people are yet to embrace, and it is something I would advise young entrepreneurs in Thika to think seriously about," said Munene.
She added: "The demand for social events organisers is on the rise especially in this town. A lot of people who are planning dowry payment ceremonies, organising graduation or birthday parties are busy and don not have time to organise the events themselves. So, as an event organiser, this is where you come in. You do all the work involved on their behalf and they pay you."
She also noted that the government offers 30 per cent of its tenders to youth and women, adding that the tenders are not only restricted to goods but also involve services.
"Many of us think that tendering is all about goods. You can also tender, for example, to be the one to organise for this year's Madaraka Day celebrations at the sub-county level or even the county level. Let focused local youth embrace this opportunity because I can confidently tell them that it pays," said Munene.
