More than 1,000 people were at Nakuru's Kwa Rhonda and Ponda Mali estates were on Thursday displaced by floods following the ongoing heavy rains.

The more than 200 families who have been left homeless are now demanding a breakdown on the expenditure of Sh 500 Million set aside for El~Nino preparedness by the County government.

"It is very depressing that we are spending sleepless nights pondering our next move yet the County government have not even responded to our cry," Odhiambo Otieno, a resident says.

However, Juma Isaac, an official with the Kenya Red Cross says the situation is dire as there is a possibility of cholera outbreak in the area.

"We are talking with the County government to chip in so that we can help the residents get food and shelter," Juma said.
