Three men were arrested on Wednesday for illegally cutting trees in Iveto forest.
The men were arraigned at the Machakos Law Courts to answer charges of illegally logging in a protected forest.
They however, denied the charges and were remanded.
The men will return to court to answer to the charges after two weeks.
Prof Benjamin Kinyili who is an Ecosystem Conservator and the Director, Kenya Forestry Service in Machakos County highly critisised the forest destruction act.
He said the act is a crime punishable by the law and the three who were taken to court together with the cutting tools and machines they were using will have to defend themselves in court against the charges.
"It is bad to find out that some people are pulling down our effort of reforestation while I, in association with other environmentalists are going round educating people on the importance of tree planting and conservation together with initiating tree planting events," said Prof Kinyili.
Prof Kinyili mentioned that he chaired a tree planting event in St Mary's Primary School in Machakos, where more than a thousand trees were planted at the school compound.
