Ruiru OCPD on Tuesday issued a warning to some bodaboda operators in the region who have been peddling bhang to youths using bodaboda business as a camouflage.
Ruiru OCPD Mr Isaac Thuranira was speaking after three operators were arrested with 123 rolls of bhang in Ruiru town and suspected to be the ones selling the illegal drugs to youths and other members of the public.
They had packed them in small sachets and hidden them in the bodaboda hence becoming difficult to realise they are in the business.
Speaking in his office today, Thuranira said that the three suspects arrested have been interrogated and have greatly helped in investigation. He confirmed that some bodaboda operators were being used by peddlers to sell the drugs as they will not be easily suspected due to their business.
The OCPD said that police acted on a tip-off from the public who claimed that this has been ongoing for about two months now. He said that Sacco management are also at risk if they have been aware of the illegal business going on and yet no action was taken against the operators.
"I want to send a warning to bodaboda operators and other business people not to be lured by drug peddlers to sell the illegal drugs for them as it is a dangerous offence. They use you because they know the consequences that are behind such offenses and when you are arrested, like we have arrested these 3, they are already aware and escape leaving you with the burden," said Thuranira.
He said that Sacco managements should also be very vigilant with such offences as they could affect the whole Sacco and stopped from operation being assumed they are all in the business. The three will appear in court tomorrow.
