Three people, among them one pupil aged five are nursing injuries at Igegania Level Four Hospital after a motorcycle accident that occurred at Gathithi Village along Thika-Flyover road on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at around 2pm when a speeding bodaboda with a passenger on board knocked down the pupil who was crossing the road.
Mercy Kiangai who sells grocery by the roadside said the nursery school kid from glory Kindergarten School was crossing the road at the monument roundabout, when he was knocked down.
The five-year-old sustained cuts and bruises, leading to bleeding, while the rider and the passenger sustained bruises and back pains.
The three sustained critical injuries and were referred to the hospital in Gatundu North for specialised treatment.
The rider Martin Mwangi was twice lucky as he was rescued by the Traffic Police from lynching by an angry mob that had gathered at the scene.
Confirming the incident the sub county deputy traffic commandant Moses Mwau said they could not arrest the rider since he was also injured.
He cautioned motorbike riders against speeding, saying most of the roads have potholes that pose great risk to riders and their passengers.
‘Several accidents have been reported since last year along the busy Thika-Flyover road, majority of which involve motorbikes and small vehicles,’ he said.
He observed that a similar accident had occurred at Kamwangi town along the same road last Saturday, where a rider was critically injured on the head when he was knocked down by a saloon car.
