Three suspected thieves were lynched by an angry mob as four others escaped in Joska in Matungulu sub county Machakos county on Sunday morning.
Confirming the incident Matungulu OCPD Joseph Chesire said the suspects were nabbed while trying to steal from one shop in Kware where the mob tied them together and set them on fire as four others managed to escape.
Cheshire condemned the act saying that no one has the right to take the law in his hands since by doing that the evidence gets lost and the suspects could be innocent.
The officer said once a suspect has been caught people should hand him over to the nearest police station and let the law to take its course.
"If you kill the suspects how will the police get to the root of the matter and ensure justice is served?" wondered Chesire.
"Remember a suspect is innocent until he is tried and proven guilty in a court of law," added Cheshire.
The officer confirmed that cases of mob justice in the sub county have slowly risen noting an incident where a woman was rescued from a mob in Kanzalu location after being cough with someone's husband.
