Elders in Ting’ang’a Ward have appealed to the Kiambu County government to involve them in development projects.

The elders say that their input and views on development projects should be considered by the government as it initiates projects.

Speaking to this writer on Tuesday at Ting’ang’a Trading Centre in Kiambu Constituency, the elders said that they have a lot to offer to the county leadership.

“The Kiambu County leadership should work with elders as it seeks to fulfil development,” said John Kamau, chairperson of the Ting’ang’a Elders Association.

Kamau said that elders in the area have diverse experience on how issues facing the county could be easily addressed.

The elders lauded the government for initiating development projects in the area, citing water projects had been recently initiated.

“We appreciate the development projects that have been started in this area and we urge the county government to initiate more pojects,” he said.

The elders at the same time asked the county government to initiate programmes that will empower elderly people in the area.

Kamau observed that some elderly persons had been abandoned by their kin due to their old age.

“Both the national and the county government should initiate programmes that will empower elderly persons not only in Kiambu but across the country,” he said.

He said the funds set aside for elderly persons is not enough to cater for the needs of the senior citizens in the society.
