The National Alliance Party has received a major blow after a number of its officials from Borabu and neighbouring Kitutu Masaba ditched it for opposition following their dissatisfaction with the party’s national leadership.
Led by Nyansiongo MCA Jackson Mogusu, the leaders faulted plans to merge Jubilee Alliance affiliated parties, terming it as a wider scheme to sabotage democracy in the country.
They also condemned two former MPs; Walter Nyambati (Kitutu Masaba) and Henry Obwocha (West Mugirango) of personalising newly formed JAP without allowing consultative leadership.
“It’s wrong for Jubilee leadership to champion for merging of parties. This is a blow to democracy because many parties give people alternatives during the elections. As a team, we are also not happy with Nyambati and Obwocha since they have personalised JAP making it difficult for us to work with them. We have resolved to join ODM,” he said.
Acting TNA Secretary Charles Bonyi and his team said they will tender resignation in a week's time and join Orange party.
“When we say we are quitting, we mean it. As outgoing officials, we will officially notify TNA secretariat in a weeks’ time and join our preferred party. We have resolved to join ODM due to its principles of respecting democracy,” he said.
Nyamira ODM vice Chair Julius Kaka hailed the leaders and took a jibe at Jubilee, accusing it of dictatorship.
“We are welcoming all those who have seen how Jubilee is oppressing democracy. You saw how they handpicked a candidate for Malindi constituency seat. In ODM, we respect democracy and we will not hesitate to work with a team such as this one that is independent minded,” he said.
