Traders at Maseno Market have decried the increased rent charged on trading stalls from the owners.

According to the traders, the increased rent is exploitation as they do no have extra money to pay considering their businesses depend on Maseno University students who have not been in session.

The traders condemned the move, saying they have no option but to source for extra money and pay.

“This is where we earn our living, we have nowhere else to go. We are doing this against our will and this has to stop,'' said Peter Ochomo, one of the traders.

They are now calling on the Kisumu County government to come in and rescue them from the oppression, that never seems to end.

A majority, who have been affected by the move, will now be forced to part with an extra sh1000.

The traders secretary, Martin Okumu, has said that they are not taking the matter lightly and will follow up until justice is served.

Okumu called on the county government to take ownership of all the stalls so that traders can directly deal with them.
