Most traders in Kibera region are feeling the hit of the hard economic month of January due to the decreased supply of commodities from suppliers.

At DC Market in Kibera, a spot check confirms that there is an increase in commodity prices, especially those of food.

''January season is believed to be a dry season, therefore, handling and keeping fresh vegetables such as sukuma wiki and tomatoes involve lots of risks for, instance, spoilage of such vegetables if not carefully handled,'' said Rose Maangu, a trader at the market.

Six leaves of sukuma wiki are now going for sh10 and a tomato at sh5 unlike before where a handful of sukuma leaves wiki costed sh5 and three tomatoes at sh10.

They say January is the month of doom and that is very accurate. Everything economically seems to go wrong during this month. People country wide are eager for the birth of a new month so that goodness can be brought back.
