Traders at Kombewa market in Seme now want Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma to give them an official market day.
The traders want the market to attract more traders and customers just like other markets in other towns that draw traders such as mitumba and grocers.
The traders were speaking during the commissioning of a high mast flood light that had been installed in the middle of the market on Tuesday.
Odhiambo Onuko, the chairman of the traders in the market said the high mast flood light has changed the way they do business.
"The light is critical to my fellow traders, we used to close at 6.30 pm but now we can operate until late," said Onuko who called on the county government to officially declare a particular day, market day for Kombewa to attract more people.
“A market day will bring more customers to this region and this will spur economic growth for the gradually rising town,” he said.
Onuko said modern toilets should also be built so that those operating during the day or late into the night can find where to relieve themselves.
"The county government needs to rethink planning of the market and other areas in Seme so that economic growth is witnessed to the fullest following the installation of the flood lights," said Onuko.
He however asked for more of the same lights in other parts of Seme so that customers who buy their items can reach their homes safely.
