Traders in Kisumu want manholes in the town to be filled as they pose a threat to pedestrians.
The traders and pedestrians raised concerns that some of the manholes were too big.
The holes have become a big risk to the safety of the traders and more especially pedestrians walking along the streets as they are vulnerable to falling in them.
Speaking to Joram Opondo, a trader along Oginga Odinga Street, he said that he has witnessed many people fall in the holes along the street.
“Those who fall in them try to jump over them but they end up falling inside,” said Joram.
Salome Awino, a trader too said that she was aware of a colleague who is nursing a broken limb after falling in one of the open holes.
She said that the colleague was rushing to Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground earlier this month during Prophet David Owuor’s visit in Kisumu.
The pedestrians and the traders are therefore calling for the county authorities to ensure the holes are sealed.
They want the problem addressed before more people end-up breaking their bones as a result of falling in the holes.
Salome however urged all pedestrians walking along the streets to be extra careful as they walk along the streets to avoid such accidents.
