A section of youths in Kibera on Friday said they prefer traditional weddings because they are cheaper compared to the modern ones.
Speaking at Ayani, the youths said modern marriage is too costly and complicated which is the opposite of traditional marriage.
One of the youths, Titus Musembi, said that modern marriages need more money and are time consuming.
''You need to go for introduction, then go back and literally beg the parents to give you their daughter. Thereafter, propose to the lady who knows very well she loves you. I wonder why I should buy two rings for one person. Then, you start wedding committees which also need money. Finally, raise money for the wedding, these are too many expenses,'' said Musembi.
Another youth, Raphael also spoke of this matter. He said modern weddings do more harm than good to Kenyan youths.
''You spend more than sh400, 000 on a wedding and the marriage won't last that long. If I were to advice someone I would tell him to go for the traditional wedding,'' he said.
Evans Samoit, yet another youth, also feels modern marriages are a waste of resources. He argues that this type of marriage is only fit for the rich and those who want to waste money.
''To me I'd rather chose a come-we –stay thing then officiate it later. It is much cheaper and real because no one forces you to marry,'' he said.
