Uasin Gishu County governor Jackson Mandago has urged the national government to offer training to county governments before reintroducing Integrated Financial Management Information System (Ifmis).
Speaking at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly premises on Tuesday, Mandago said most counties don't know how to use the system, thus delay in starting projects and payment of salaries.
"Ifmis has caused delay in starting programmes due to lack of money since it takes a lot of time even to eight months for us to get money making us stop all projects. It is not that the system is bad but we need to be trained on the same," he said.
He urged the government not to reintroduce the system until proper training is done, since without that, at the end of financial year a lot of money will be returned to National Treasury.
Ifmis was late last year suspended by the government following pressure from governors, who said it was cumbersome and they did not have infrastructure to implement it.
