A section of Kisii University students is calling upon the school administration to train them with skills to adequately handle emergencies.
The group says disaster management skills are paramount in the current world citing a scenario where a number of students were injured from a transformer explosion thinking it was an al-Shabaab attack.
“We call upon the school administration to train us with the necessary skills such as how to react to cases of fire incidences and al-Shabaab attacks. We are professionals and we ought be smart in every area,” said Jimmy Okoth, a student.
The country has been facing al-Shabaab threats where recently they released a report that they are targeting airports across the country.
“The school should set programs that help sensitise the students on their safety," stated Joyce Ogembo, a student.
"A number of our students don’t even know how to use fire extinguishers which is very unfortunate. This will be very useful now and in the future,” added Ogembo.
The students now want the school administration to see to it that they are fully trained to handle emergencies.
