A long distance truck driver got the wrath of residents on Thursday evening at Mai Mahiu trading centre after he was nabbed entertaining a school girl in a lodging.
According to eyewitness accounts, the residents acted on a tip off from a worker at the bar and restaurant.
The Tanzania national is said to have taken advantage of the minor who was from school after closing and wanted to travel to Eldoret.
“It’s sad and very unfortunate that our girls are still subjected to such acts at a time when we are fighting teenage prostitution and school drop outs, tough laws should be put in place to ensure that the perpetrators don't go unpunished," said Mildred Mungai, a witness.
The girl, a form three student, is said to have approached the driver asking for a lift to Eldoret town before the twist of events.
“Some men are a real let down to us. How comfortable does one feel moving around with a girl his daughter's age and funny enough, in school uniform?" wondered Maurice Nyaga, a truck driver.
Nyaga said his 20 years as a long distance driver has taught him many life lessons that have enabled him have self-discipline.
The suspect took advantage of the charged crowd baying for his blood and vanished through the back door before hurriedly driving off.
The residents took upon themselves and raised fare for the school girl and ensured she boarded an Eldoret bound matatu. They have threatened to demand for the disbandment of the trucks parking lot accusing the drivers of promoting prostitution in the area.
