Knut Masaba branch has accused Teachers Service Commission of alleged delay in replacing teachers who had died as well as those who had quit the profession.
Speaking at Keroka offices on Friday, branch Deputy Secretary General James Oteki accused the teachers' employers of delaying to respond despite their efforts to issue a notification.
He said the apathy was hindering delivery of quality education countrywide, insisting that the country did not have enough teachers.
“Most of our institutions are suffering from under-staffing, yet it’s ridiculous that it takes a long time to have teachers who have died, quit the profession or retired get replaced. This delay tactic by TSC is hindering deliver of quality services,” he said.
Oteki challenged TSC to replace the teachers within a month, saying the move will help affected institutions catch up with the rest.
“As a union from Masaba, we are disappointed that schools have to wait for longer periods to get replacements. TSC should ensure the teachers are replaced within a month so that affected institutions are able to catch up with the rest across the country,” he said.
He also called for deployment of more teachers to the region to combat under-staffing, which he said had become a menace to area institutions.
“We do not only have the problem with replacement of teachers who have left service but also under-staffing challenges. TSC should solve these critical issues. Our children need quality education and that can be done if we have enough teachers,” he said.
