Turi Member of County Assembly Moses Wangombe will introduce a bill in the county assembly seeking to have a rehabilitation centre for street children in all the wards in the area.
Wangombe said that there has been increased cases of children who ran away from home.
According to Wang’ombe, their presence offered a security threat to area residents and to the whole country at large.
Wangombe pointed out that they had become a major target for vigilante groups who often hit the streets to seek recruitment for them.
Wangombe said that the bill will seek to arrest and rehabilitate any kid who they cannot track their families.
“We will demand for their arrest and force them to learn technical skills so that we can prevent them from going back to the streets,” he added.
Wang’ombe was speaking to the press on Tuesday where he added that there was also an urgent need to start rehabilitating the street kids against their glue addiction.
“We intend to seek the source of the substance and the major challenge has been trying to stop their supply. It is sad that even after the children are taken to safe houses and children homes they end up back on the streets as they do not have supply of the products,” he added.
