Two revenue collectors under the county government of Nyamira were seriously injured and rushed to Kapkatet District Hospital following a scuffle with boda boda operators; the area chief confirmed.
According to the Mwongori chief Mr. David Ogega, the angry boda boda operators were opposing alleged intimidation by the workers who were compelling them to pay Kshs. 300 as part of the revenue to the county government.
The move generated a heated debate before the angry operators stoned two of the five county workers from the Nyansiongo region in Borabu constituency.
Ogega urged the boda boda operators responsible for the skirmishes to surrender to authorities before a crackdown is initiated to apprehend them.
“I want to urge perpetrators to surrender to authorities before we catch up with them,” Ogega said.
However, Mwongori boda boda secretary Mr. Eric Mokua denied the claims and instead insisted that the members were not ready to comply with the order from the county government until they repair the major roads connecting Mwongori and Nyaronge trading center.
“As far as I know, the officials were not attacked by any of our registered members and it is upon the authority to investigate. However, we will not be subjected to paying any fee to the county government until the roads we use are renovated,” he said.
