Two people have died following a road accident in Sabaki, along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, Athi River Police boss, Kizito Mutoro, said the accident involved two vehicles, a saloon car and a bus, which were headed in the same direction.
“The saloon car which had five occupants was heading to Machakos Town when the bus heading to Tanzania hit it from behind a few meters from the Nairobi-Namanga Athi River interchange,” said Mutoro.
Mutoro said the driver of the saloon car shifted lanes suddenly causing the bus to hit it from behind.
“Two passengers who aboard the saloon car died on the spot while the other three sustained injuries and have been taken to Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River,” said Mutoro.
Mutoro said the bus driver sped off towards Namanga Road though non of its occupants sustained any injury.
“A motorist who had witnessed the incident recorded the number plate of the bus and reported the incident at Athi River Police Station and the police notified their colleagues at Kajiado Police Station,” he added.
The bus was later intercepted at the Kenya-Namanga boarder, where the bus driver was arrested and taken to Athi River Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court.
