Two people were on Saturday injured and admitted in hospital after they fought over money they received after digging a grave at a funeral.

Both men are receiving treatment at the Kisii County Teaching and Referral Hospital after sustaining minor injuries following the fight.

The two, Alex Atandi and Peter Mong'are according to a witness, Zachary Ong'ondi, had been assigned to dig a grave at funeral before being given money to share.

They however, differed on the mode of sharing the cash, resulting in a fight that made them sustain injuries.

It is said the money was given by a local politician.

Some mourners however, faulted the politician for paying the money.

“It is a tradition that they (grave diggers) are not paid," Ong'ondi said.

"But they were given a token by a politician. They had a disagreement on how to share the Sh1,500 given and a fight ensued."

“Mourners acted in time and separated the two who were injured and we rushed them to Kisii Hospital with serious head injuries."

Area chief Felix Atandi condemned the incident.
