The continous ignoring of the the two thirds gender rule during public appointments has sparked a debate in Nakuru with a section of leaders holding public offices decrying being left out.
Led by Women Representative Mary Mbugua and Molo Sub County Deputy Commissioner Judith Cheruiyot, they argue that alot had to be done to empower women because of lack of equal opportunities.
Speaking in Molo Town on Thursday after meeting a group of women professionals from the sub county, they accused appointing officers, including the head of state, of being insensitive on this article in the constitution.
They cited the recent cabinet reshuffle by President Uhuru Kenyatta as proof that women in the country still played second fiddle.
Mbugua said, "We expected dockets previously held by women to be replaced by other women but what happened still shocks us to date," Mbugua said adding that giving men the said dockets was a mockery to the many professional women ready to serve this country."
This comes barely three days after the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) disowned the President's appointments saying that the gender rule had not been adhered to.
Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru and her Lands counterpart Charity Ngilu were among the biggest losers in the new look cabinet announced by the president on Tuesday.
