President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to defend the Kenya Defence Forces over allegations of selling charcoal and sugar in Somalia.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Sunday, Kenyatta said KDF went to Somalia to fight Alshabab and bring peace to Somalia.
"The report by journalist for justice that KDF is involved in smuggling charcoal and sugar is ill intended and that is not true since they are only involved in the fight against Alshabab and nothing else. My officers are clean," he said.
He said that the report is meant to tarnish the good name for the KDF for them to be withdrawn from Somalia.
"We will not withdraw our KDF officers from Somalia until Alshab are fought and demolished completely and security enhanced that’s when will call it a day," he said.
He urged the KDF officers not to relent but to continue working and the report should not demoralise them since they are doing a noble duty.
"We are proud of what KDF is doing in the fight against Alshabab and we will accord them our support fully. Since they stepped their legs in Somalia, security has been enhanced and Alshabab destroyed," he said.
