Former Ethics and Governance Permanent Secretary (PS) John Githongo has alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government is the most corrupt compared to previous governments.
Githongo claims that President Uhuru has failed to tame graft in his government four years after being elected.
Speaking during an interview on NTV on Thursday, Githongo alleged that taxpayer’s money are being looted in the Jubilee government at the watch of the President.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta has failed to act tough on graft suspects who are embezzling tax payers money meant for development and service delivery,” he alleged during the interview.
The former PS noted that graft is rampant despite existence of tough financial and procurement regulations.
He said that the government has not shown the desire to end corruption.
The former PS who was the whistle-blower for the multi-billion Anglo-leasing scandal in 2004 claimed that corruption cartels controls the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
“The government needs to change its approach in fighting corruption or else the vice will remain rampant,” he said.
Githongo also called for political goodwill across the political divide saying its need for the war against corruption to be real.
Meanwhile, Githongo has been invited by President Uhuru for the Governance and Accountability Summit slated for Tuesday next week at State House in Nairobi.
According to the star Newspaper, others invited for the summit are Siaya senator James Orengo, Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale and Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba.
