Farmers from Olenguruone area in Kuresoi North on Friday woke up to a rude shock after an unidentified animal attacked their sheep and goats killing 24.
Geoffery Kiptanui says that he lost 10 sheep and 9 goats after the night attack by the animal suspected to be wild.
"I lost all my 10 sheep and 9 goats," said Kiptanui.
Confirming the incidence, area chief Ambrose Ng'eno said that the wild animal attacked the animals at 2am.
"Over 18 sheep and 6 goats were today in the morning killed by a wild animal suspected to be a hyena or a leopard," said Ng'eno.
The chief said that they are yet to confirm the wild animal and they have contacted the Kenya Wild Service (KWS) to launch investigations.
He called on residents bordering Mau Forest not to kill any wild animal in anger saying the KWS would intervene.
"The responsibility is now with KWS and residents should be patient," Ng'eno told this writer on Friday.
He further called upon the KWS to address the human-wildlife conflict in the area which he says has been causing panic.
"In the last six months, the residents have lost over 80 sheep to leopards and hyenas," he added.
The residents are calling on the government to compensate them and protect them against the alleged attacks by the wild animals.
