Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) chairman Kiprono Kittony has urged university graduates across the country to embrace entrepreneurship and trade instead of waiting to be employed.

Speaking to journalists in Kisumu town on Saturday, Kittony said there are numerous opportunities in entrepreneurship sector which university graduates should grab.

He observed that university graduates are equipped with skills and knowledge which they can use to start meaningful business ventures.

He said the rising unemployment would reduce if graduates embraced entrepreneurship.

“It is time for university graduates take up entrepreneurship instead of wasting time looking for white collar jobs which are hard to come by,” he said.

Kittony asked graduates and youths in general to take advantage of government development initiatives to venture into business.

The KNCCI boss cited the 30 per cent government tenders reserved for youths and marginalised groups, which he said can empower youths if they take advantage of it.

Kittony urged the national and the county governments to sensitise youths on the reservation of 30 per cent of government tenders.

He observed that many marginalised groups who are expected to benefit from the government tenders have no information on how to access the tenders.
