The University of Eldoret is determined to promote research and innovation as a means of producing quality animal breeds and crops.

Speaking during the university’s third graduation on Friday, Vice Chancellor Teresa Akenga said to attain Vision 2030, Kenya needs innovators and researchers in the agriculture sector to enhance food security.

"In this financial year, we have allocated Sh20 million for research and innovation to enhance production of high quality crops and animal breeds," she said.

The VC said the institution is determined to be the centre of excellence in crop and animal breeding research not only in the region, but Africa as a whole.

"I urge all stakeholders to come and sponsor our research and innovation programmes for us to come up with quality crops and animal breeding centre," she added.
