Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi is yet again on spot after he allegedly breached protocol to welcome Cord leader Raila Odinga on Thursday when the opposition chief landed in Kisii Gold club for the official opening of Kisii Entrepreneurial Summit.

Mr Maangi, who has been accused in recent weeks of working closely with DP William Ruto and the Jubilee team, rushed to shake the hands of Mr Odinga despite the presence of his host Governor James Ongwae and Senator Chris Obure, the main ODM points men from Kisii region.

The move, however, has not gone down well with ODM youth leaders led by chairman Erick Janganya who has now labelled the deputy governor and opportunist and slammed him of ‘seeking favours’ from the Cord leader.

“I am really disappointed that the opportunist had done it again. Ongwae and Obure were around and we expected them to be the first to welcome Prime Minister Raila Odinga when he landed. This man is always out to seek favours,” Janganya said.

His deputy Thomas Obare demanded that the deputy governor be relieved his duties as ODM organising secretary and blamed Mr Maangi of sabotaging the opposition in the region.

“He (Maangi) is a betrayer to our party and it’s really disappointing that he had been the first to welcome our party leader. He is a Jubilee man and it’s sad that ODM has not relived him off his duties as organising secretary. His associating with Jubilee is sabotaging our party’s strategies to win 2017 polls,” he said.

Mr Ongwae skipped to answer the question from journalists on Thursday, saying his government was committed in improving economic status of the region.

“What’s important now is to ask ourselves what Kisii County has to offer in terms of development. Some issues (about Maangi’s action) are not worth a debate,” Ongwae told reporters.
