Kiambu County Youth Director Marie Mugo has cautioned beneficiaries of the Uwezo and Biashara Funds against misusing the funds.

The Youth Director instead wants the beneficiaries of the funds to use them wisely and on appropriate projects.

Speaking during a forum with county officials on Biashara Fund that was held at the Thika sub-county Chambers on Thursday, Mugo asked groups that have benefited from the fund to start meaningful projects.

The Youth Director said that beneficiaries will be able to reap profits and empower themselves if they invest the funds wisely.

She observed that several cases where beneficiaries have misused and squandered the development money given to them have been reported.

“Our advice to all the beneficiaries of these funds is to ensure that they use the money given to them wisely and on the right projects,” she said.

The Youth director stated that beneficiaries of the funds have been sensitized on how to use the money adding that any case of misuse will be a disadvantage and failure to the individuals and groups.

Mugo said that the county government has taken various steps towards empowering marginalized groups. She urged youths, women and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) to fully take advantage of the government empowerment programmes.

She observed that hundreds of marginalized groups have benefited from the Biashara Fund that was established by the Kiambu county government two years ago.

The official said that plans to increase the allocation to the Fund from current Sh700 million to Sh1 billion are underway.

Mugo also encouraged marginalized groups to apply for the 30 percent government tenders that have been reserved for them at the national and county government level.
