Ruiru MP Esther Gathongo has challenged youth in the area to shun drug abuse and instead use the talents they have to improve their lives.

Speaking in Mwihoko Githurai on Saturday after attending a youth event in Githurai, the MP observed that talents can help young people earn descend incomes.

She noted that many youth had been lured into drug abuse and other social evils.

“It is time for our youths to use the talents they have to earn descent livelihoods and also contribute to development,” said the Ruiru lawmaker.

Gathongo noted that through talents young people will have a chance to utilize the opportunities that comes with talents.

The MP called on leaders and the government to nurture youth talents.

She said that while many young people could be having talents, they need to be nurtured and developed.

The MP pledged to work with youth in spearheading development agenda in the area.

Kiambu County TNA Coordinator Gladys Chania who attended the event cautioned youth against drug and substance abuse.

Chania said that drug abuse has caused a lot of pain to society adding that stakeholders need to come together to ensure that the menace is stamped out.
