Uasin Gishu residents have been urged to ensure that they sleep under treated Mosquito nets during the  ongoing heavy rains to prevent cases of malaria.

Uasin Gishu County Health Director Evans Kiprotich on Monday said the breeding of mosquitoes is higher during rainy season compared to the dry season. 

"I urge Uasin Gishu residents especially expectant mothers and children below ages of five who are at high risk to be infected with malaria to ensure that they sleep under treated mosquito nets," he said.

 He said the Ministry of Health was giving out free nets to protect Uasin Gishu residents against Malaria during the anticipated el Nino rains. 

"We are giving out free treated mosquito nets. The only thing you need to do is to register at the ward offices and you will be given one net," he added.

He challenged Uasin Gishu County residents to protect themselves against malaria saying it is among the dangerous diseases that can claim many lives.
