Uasin Gishu deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged residents to vacate flood prone areas in the wake of the El Nino rains to prevent loss of life and property.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Chemno said despite the county government urging residents to vacate the areas, they have ignored the warning.

"It is sad that Uasin Gishu residents who reside in areas which were declared as El Nino hot spots have not taken into account our advice to vacate the area as a preventive measure to avoid loss of lives lost and property,” he said.

The deputy governor said the regions the residents are supposed to vacate are River Sosiani, Munyaka, Langas and Huruma.

"Wananchi should take our advice seriously El Nino is real and if caution is not taken, millions worth of property will be destroyed and leave thousands of people homeless."
