While addressing a congregation during a thanksgiving service at Dr Sagini hall on Thursday, the varsity's vice chancellor, Prof John Akama, told students to be cautious at all times.

"You saw what happened to our soldiers and students of Garissa University College, security begins with you. Therefore, be careful in all your undertakings," said Akama.

He further urged students to collaborate closely with security personnel at the university and the police to safeguard their security.

He hinted that more security personnel will be deployed to the university, including satellite campuses.

Being also the final day of orientation to the newly admitted students for January 2016, Akama welcomed the freshmen and informed them that the university was determined to creating a strong foundation for their careers.

Over 400 students had been admitted during the January intake.
