Mount Kenya University Thika Vice Chancellor Prof. Stanley Waudo has urged the campus students to avoid indulging in drug abuse as they break off for Christmas celebrations.
The VC said that drug abuse has affected learning in higher institutions with a portion of varsity scholars already addicts.
“Peer influence has led many students to become drunkards and if this does not change we may lose our students to the streets,” Prof. Waudo said.
Speaking to the students during the 9th graduation ceremony in Thika on Friday, Waudo called on parents to take care of the students who will be at home with them during the Christmas celebrations.
“As parents, we need to counsel our sons and daughters and limit their freedom to safeguard their safety. No matter the age they are still children and should be counseled,” the VC said.
He said that cases of people losing lives during this festive season have become rampant over the last few years adding that refraining from laxity and drug abuse would help enhance safety for all during the festive season.
In addition, Prof. Waudo urged the students to consider engaging in constructive activities which will increase their pool of knowledge and better their expertise in the careers they are pursuing.
