Grief and shock have engulfed residents of Kimenywa Village in Gatongu sub location after a 23-year-old man allegedly killed his grandparents before escaping.

The suspect, identified as Moses Kamau, is said to have broken into a house where the two were sleeping through a wall after demolishing a section of the house at around 1am on Wednesday.

Grace Njeri, a 15-year-old girl who was also sleeping in the house of the victims informed the media that the suspect broke into the house but she could not hear him as it was raining heavily where he hit the old grandparents with a hatchet.

“He ordered me to undress while holding a hatchet on his hand but I declined and picked a fight with him. He escaped to safety with the hatchet when his younger brother started screaming,” Njeri said.

Neighbours later arrived on the scene on hearing the screams but could not catch up with the suspect who is said to be a drug addict.

“We suspect him of using drugs. This may have induced him to commit this crime,” Paul Njoroge, one of the neighbours explained.

Area police boss Alex Ng’ang’a said the suspect is still at large and police have mounted investigations into the incident.

“We are still looking for the suspect. I call upon anybody with any clue about the person to help us with the information,” Ng’ang’a stated.

The police also took the bodies to the Nakuru County Referral Hospital for an autopsy.
