Political leaders have been challenged to rally for unity and harmony among Kenyan communities as the country prepares for the next general election.

Speaking on Sunday in Kisii town during a fundraising, ACK leader Eliud Wabukala said politicians also have a role to play in promoting integration and unity among the Kenyan communities by forging unity amongst themselves first.

Mr Wabukala said the church could only succeed in promoting unity by working with politicians whom he said played an integral role in the society and also being idolised by many people.

“I want to call upon politicians to preach unity among Kenyans because most of them represent a sizeable population. The church will always do its part to unite Kenyans but the political brass should also join us all times,” he said.

He said Kenya was likely to make huge strides in development if politicians from all political divides worked close and in solidarity to reduce simmering political temperatures which are witnessed in the elections often.

“And this means if we have to remain united, politicians should be ready to work together as a family to spur growth among our people. When politicians are divided, they also lead to disharmony between Kenyans. They have to be united to push one political cause in the name of development,” he said.

Wabukala also challenged politicians to desist from making incitement remarks in rallies, saying it would be detrimental ahead of national polls.

“We are heading to elections and as clergy, I would like to challenge politicians to desist from making incitement remarks in political rallies. They must lead by example and if they cannot do such a simple thing, history will judge them harshly,” he said.
