Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked Kenyans to embrace peace and unity and shun leaders perpetuating tribal politics.

Speaking at Kikuyu town on Tuesday, Wamatangi said that unity among Kenyans will push the country forward. The senator said that the country has come a long way and tribal politics and divisions should not be tolerated.

Wamatangi asked political leaders to lead by example and ensure that Kenyans are living in harmony with each other.

“Kenyans should shun leaders who are fond of making inflammatory remarks and statements with intentions of causing disunity,” he said.

Wamatangi also called for reconciliation among Kenyans saying that it is necessary for integration and cohesion.

The senator also asked Kiambu leaders to take the front-line in preaching for tolerance.

He said that acts of intolerance should be condemned adding that development will be achieved if there is unity. The senator also said that the visit by Pope Francis in to the country should be the basis for unity and reconciliation among Kenyans.

“Kenya is blessed because the Holy Father is coming and as leaders and Kenyans at large we should use the Pope’s visit to reconcile,” he added.

Pope Francis is expected in the country on Thursday for a three-day visit where he is scheduled to meet government officials, the youths and other groups.
