Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked the county government to beef up security following a spate of crime in some parts of the county.

Addressing residents in Kikuyu Town on Tuesday, Wamatangi said security officials in the county have to step up security efforts.

The Senator said that sections of residents across the country are complaining over rise in criminal activities.

The Kiambu senate lawmaker said that security agencies in the county have enough resources to ensure law and order.

“It is evident that security remains a challenge in most parts of Kiambu based on the reports we have received from the residents,” said Wamatangi.

The senator said that security is the first agenda the government should address.

He asked law enforcers in the county to coordinate with their national counterparts and restore order in the affected areas.

Wamatangi also asked Kiambu security officials led by the county commissioner to fight acts of intolerance and violence.

On the same note, the senator called for the arrest and prosecution of people said to have torched down a section of the Makongeni market in Thika Sub-County on Sunday.

Speaking on Monday, Kiambu County commissioner Alex Nkoyo assured residents that the police were working hard to restore law and order.

The commissioner said criminals will not be tolerated, and urged residents to cooperate with the law enforcers.
