Kiambu County Senator Kimani Wamatangi has raised concerns over low turnout in most registration centres in Kiambu.

Speaking at Furaha worship centre on Sunday during a church service, the senator appealed to residents to register in large numbers.

The senator stated that it is through registering as voters that residents will be able to demand for good leadership.

Wamatangi said voter registration is important and that every citizen who is eligible should participate in the exercise.

“The number of people who have turned out for the first week of voter registration in many centres across Kiambu is low and I want to encourage people to register,” he said.

The senator asked employers to allow their staff to register as voters in the ongoing exercise.

He also asked church leaders and community leaders to rally behind the residents to register massively.

The senator said that bad leaders will only be removed through voting.

The voter registration exercise has entered its second week with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) urging Kenyans to come out and register.

The electoral commission is seeking to register four million new voters in readiness for the 2017 general elections.
