Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has accused trade union leaders of working with the opposition to discredit and weaken the government.
Addressing reporters in Kiambu town on Tuesday, Wamatangi said that it was evident that some trade unions were openly working with the opposition.
“It is worrying and unfortunate that some trade unions are openly working with the opposition to weaken the government. They are turning into political outfits,” he said.
The senator specifically lashed out at the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) secretary general Wilson Sossion accusing him of seeking the support of the opposition to discredit the government.
Wamatangi further dismissed calls by Sossion that he would rally teachers to vote out the Jubilee government in the 2017 elections.
The Kiambu senator lawmaker termed Sossion’s comments as wishful thinking.
Speaking at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu on Monday, Sossion reportedly said teachers would rally together to kick out the Jubilee government in 2017 general elections.
Sossion accused the government of tolerating corruption.
Meanwhile, senator Wamatangi has cautioned leaders against politicising corruption. The senator says that politicising graft will not help in taming it.
Wamatangi further wants opposition leaders to stop branding the Jubilee government as corrupt.
"Some leaders in the opposition are branding government as corrupt, yet some of them were architects of corruption in previous governments," he added.
