Gilgil is set to become one of the major towns in Nakuru County. The town is attracting investors from far and wide. This has seen the land and rental prices go up in the recent past.

The town hosts two army barracks that have significantly contributed to the areas' economy. Members of the army are among the leading investors in both property and retail sectors.

The area is also home to tens of private academies and schools including some of the best known in the country.

Investors in hotel and entertainment sub-sectors are setting up base in the town.

This is evident by several restaurant-cum-bars opening in the area. There are a few industries dealing in mining and manufacturing of farm equipment.

Agriculture also plays a critical role in Gilgil's growth. Greenhouse farming of vegetables and organic farming is being embraced by area farmers. The area also is home to several flower farms.

According to Samuel Wanjehia, a property manager in the town, the demand for land has gone up in the past six months.

But the town faces a number of challenges as it grows. Drainage and sewerage systems are lacking, and now residents want the county government address the matter.

They also want their Governor Kinuthia Mbugua led administration to put in place proper waste management systems. Water and electricity are not evenly distributed.

Bondeni slums, located at the heart of the town, is too a concern for residents.

Besides being a den of illicit brews, the slum is said to host criminals.
