One of the 50 most wanted thugs linked to a series of robberies and killings in Kisumu has surrendered to the police.

Peter Adoyo surrendered to a security team chaired by County Commissioner John Elungata on Monday after his name appeared among those listed of wanted criminals.

Elungata on Thursday released 50 names of most wanted criminals and urged those seeking amnesty to surrender.

The commissioner said the suspects had been identified by sub counties they come from.

Speaking to the press, Adoyo said he has participated in numerous robberies in Kisumu and its environs but has now reformed. He is listed position seven in the released names.

He is a contractor and also runs a quarry at his rural home. He said most of his accomplices were killed and some are serving life sentenced in various prisons. Adoyo said he was mostly involved in robbery and burglary.

Adoyo added that he had earlier been jailed for 10 years for robbery.

“I decided to come out because I am tired of being associated with criminal activities. I am calling the public with cases against me to come out in court,” he said.

Adoyo who hails from Awasi in Nyando sub-county sought amnesty through Muhoroni sub county commissioner Solomon Abwaku.

Elungata urged the public with the case against the suspect to come help them charge him in court.

“The reason why we brought the suspect in the public is to allow his victims to identify him and press charges against him,” he said.

Elungata said criminals seeking amnesty should surrender immediately. He said the security team has mapped out all the crime hotspots and will increase patrols.

They include Nyalenda, Migosi, Manyatta, Obunga, Mamboleo and Nyawita in Kisumu town. Other areas are Awasi, Ahero town and Muhoroni among others. More than 14 suspected members of the ’40 Brothers’ gang have been arrested with about 10 killed.
