Water supply to residential houses and business premises at the Coast has been reconnected.
The residents in Mombasa have been without the precious commodity for four days after the Coast Water Services Board (CWSB) disconnected water supplies over unpaid bills.
CWSB Chairman, Nick Munyi said the water was disconnected over billions of shillings in debt dating back to 2013.
“Normal water supply has been resumed at the Baricho water works after talks with various stake holders and county government over the money owed to CWSB.”
“The water was disconnected on Saturday over unpaid bills. We had to shut down to force people to pay their bills,” Munyi said while speaking to journalists.
The CWSB had disconnected water supply to Mombasa from the Baricho water works, Mzima springs, Tiwi boreholes and Marere springs water sources.
Most of the residents at the coast complained of high retail prices for water from vendors who were selling at double the normal price.
Monicah Mumbi, a resident with three children said they were adversely affected as water last flowed out of their taps on Saturday and getting clean drinking water was a problem.
“Hospitals, schools and hotel were most affected by the water interruption. We are glad that normal water supply has resumed,” said Ms Mumbi.
