The Kenya National Red cross Nakuru branch has said it is ready to counter the effects of the El Nino rains.

Speaking on Tuesday, branch coordinator Ben Gichimu maintained that as a society they were adequately prepared to handle cases of human suffering should the rains get out of hand.

"I believe we have everything ready to alleviate situations in case these rains become destructive," he said. 

He further added that they had already began to conduct spot checks across the county to ascertain the impact of the ongoing rains.

 He also called on residents to liaise with the security early enough so that they can link up with them and efficiently respond to distress calls. 

Gichimu however advised residents in flood prone areas within the county to heed to directives from different government to move to higher grounds so as to forestall calamities.
