Residents from Rhonda slums have expressed frustrations over the response by the El~Nino preparedness team to assist them.
The residents said that they feel neglected by the county government of Nakuru owing to the ongoing heavy rains that have rendered some of them homeless after floods displaced them.
Speaking on Tuesday, the residents claimed that the response by the task force set up by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to address the crisis caused by the El~Nino rain was not only painfully slow but was also mired in favouritism.
"Since the rains began nobody has cared to know our fate. We are really suffering here yet a task force set up by the county and fully funded to respond to this calamity is doing absolutely nothing to help the cause. I am very disappointed," quipped Jonas Onguko, a resident.
"The governor should come and see for himself what his electorate are going through. If he really cares about us then he should move fast and help us out because apparently the committee he set up to address issues of El~Nino is in deep slumber. They only take relief help elsewhere," Jane Muthoni Ng'ang'a added.
The residents warned that the situation could degenerate into a human crisis if it was not contained in due time noting that more and more people risked being displaced by the ongoing rains.
They also appealed to the Kenya Red Cross to respond to their woes saying that they were in dire need of help.
The estate has experienced devastating effects from the ongoing El~Nino rains which has so far rendered several roads in the area impassable and over 1,000 people displaced by floods.
However efforts to reach the task committee were futile as their calls were not going through.
