The general elections are happening next year and the campaign mood can already be felt in the air.
Political analysts argue that the political parties were using the recent by-elections to test their might. This is the time when leaders we elected in Machakos and in the whole country at large start appearing in the grass-roots to woo the electorate.
It's also the same time they embark in some projects to show the people that they are working. They know that we have a short memory and we will forget they didn't do anything for close to 4 years.
They will use the few projects they have started as their tools of campaigns. You will hear them talk proudly of the bit they have done for the 5 yrs they have been in office.
Of course they will come will promises to do more. Their promises excite us so much that we forget the past and re-elect them.
This is the reason we never make any progress as a county and country in general, we keep re-electing the same non-performers. We need to wake up and recognise that these leader are our servants.
We pay them with our money so they must deliver. We should hold our leader accountable for the time they have been in office. We should remind them that they are not doing us a favour when they build roads, give bursaries, dig boreholes etc.
Everything they do to us is our right and funded by our money. Nothing is funded by the personal money.
