Deputy President William Ruto has assured church leaders that the government will look into the proposed law by the attorney general meant to regulate churches to ensure the freedom of worship is not compromised.
Speaking on Saturday during the burial of Walter Kimwatei, a renown businessman, Ruto said the government has no intentions to gag churches.
"Our aim is to come up with laws that protect church members from being conned by preachers who have turned churches to market places," he said.
He said that he had directed Attorney General Githu Muigai to meet with all stakeholders before the proposal is enforced.
"The attorney general will be meeting church leaders in a three days retreat in Naivasha in March to iron out the differences in the proposed law that seeks to regulate churches, there is no cause of alarm," he said.
This comes after church leaders protested on the proposed law by the attorney general that is aimed at regulating religious organisations.
