The county government of Kisii is committed towards equipping local secondary schools to boost performance in national exams, Governor James Ongwae has said.

Mr Ongwae, who was speaking at Ritembu secondary in Boochi Borabu ward on Friday, said many local schools were underperforming due to scarce learning materials and equipment.

“I am aware that many of our local schools experience many challenges and this makes it difficult for them to compete fairly with other established institutions. Our schools are not properly equipped and that is evident because they lack enough learning materials,” Ongwae said.

He said his government will equip local schools with libraries and science labs to boost equality among the institutions.

"We have a huge disparity among our schools and this hinders favorable competitions. I know education is not devolved but all our local schools will have their libraries and science labs equipped by my government soon,” he said.

Mr Ongwae said the county government will work with education stakeholders and members of county assembly to identify the neediest institutions for urgent help and called for improved results in 2016 national exams.

“Most of our schools performed well in 2015 exams and I believe if we equip some of them, we are poised to get better results. The county government will work with MCAs and education stakeholders to identify neediest institutions for urgent fix. We want to see delivery of quality education that is void of inequality,” he added.
