The introduction of Supersport as a broadcasting partner has enabled most of the countries in Africa to have a tip of what football is all about in Kenya.

Despite the wrangles between the football federation and the managers of the league KPL, Kenyan football fans have been embracing their teams throughout the season.

In recent years, most of the talented players across Africa have been trading their football in Kenya that is from Uganda, Rwanda and even Nigeria. This was attributed by the financial muscle aided by the package provided by the league sponsor to the participating teams.

The new federation in office has promised to bring back the football tradition that Kenya had back in the 90’s when Gor Mahia and AFC leopard fans could fill the stands at stadiums just to support their team.

Due to the continued wrangles in the league and underperforming of our national team, most fans have opted to support their English based clubs to the dismay of the premier league. A good example is when a Kenyan fan is able to name a full team in the English Premier League but cannot even name half of those in a Kenyan team!

Making matters worse, most of he Kenyan media has embraced the same by airing live matches of foreign leagues instead of their own. The question is who will promote our own? The government and football stakeholders in the country should come up with good strategies of bringing fans back to the pitch for the betterment of our local league.

In most recent years Kenya premier league has produced most talented players to the European league, Mariga making the history by becoming the first East and Central Africa player to win a champions league.

It’s time for the new managing body to facilitate the growth of our league but until then, there is much to be done for our national team to appear in the African Cup of Nations if not the World cup!
