Every generation has its ‘in thing’. Those from the 70s practically begun partying as we know it today, hence the phrase ‘party like 70s’.
Back then they still had fashionistas much like we have today. Unlike us, they didn’t have skinny jeans or booty shorts but bell bottom jeans, those pants you see your grandpa in in his photo album when he still had black hair.
Fashion, like seasons, come and go. What is hot today might not be next week.
Currently, tattoos appear to be the most trending fashion in town. They are being sort for by both males and females.
Those that don’t have them are rushing to get one while those that do have them are going to add one or two more.
Some go for the more subtle ones; a lover’s name or an animal.
Others, however, go for the extreme stuff; a tattoo across the back or on the whole arm.
Hardly a day will pass without spotting someone new in a tattoo.
To cater for this trend, we have tattoo parlors spread across the town.
They have created employment for the youths. Onesmus, a tattooist had this to say; “It’s not every day you get to do what you love and get paid for it. I love my job.”
Another growing trend is dreadlocks. Remember the days when dreadlocks were associated with all the negative traits you could think of? Well, those are long gone.
From business persons to matatu touts and drivers to school kids. Everybody seems to want to get those locks.
A majority are being done the modern way. You know in fancy salons and barber shops while some are being done the natural way.
The latter is very easy to find since they are found on those practicing Rastafarianism.
Much like the tattoos, locks have also employed a good number of Vegans.
A majority of the salons within and without town are making a kill from this fashion crave.
If you are like me who wouldn’t hear the end of it if you as much as kept your hair longer than a centimetre, then these trends are not for you.
If not then, you should consider getting a tat.
Just make sure it comes with a nice story!
